JetBrains drew this in-house in 2020 to solve a specific problem: code readability over hours of staring. The proportions are taller than typical mono, the letters more open, and the ligatures lean editorial. Less ornamental than Fira Code, less neutral than IBM Plex Mono. JetBrains Mono is mono with an opinion about how code should read at 3 a.m.
